Nintendo's Wii video game system (pronounced "we") brings people of all ages and video game experience together to play. This simple yet ground breaking idea is expressed not only though the system's evocative name, which is easily pronounced in a variety of languages, and suggests two players side by side, but also through its innovative list of features and extensive list of playable titles.

A Little Box With Plenty of Power
As with every console, much of the buzz surrounds the specs. The Wii boasts 512 MB of internal flash memory, two USB 2.0 ports, and a slot for SD memory expansion. The system's technological heart -- a processing chip developed with IBM and code-named "Broadway" and a graphics chipset from ATI code-named "Hollywood" -- deliver stunning performance. And instead of a tray, Wii uses a single, self-loading media bay that plays both 12-centimeter optical discs used for the new system, as well as Nintendo GameCube discs.

Revolutionary Control
No bigger than a small traditional remote control, the wireless Wii Remote is a truly multi functional device. The magic of the Wii Remote's design lies within; acellerometers inside the controller measure movement in all directions and at all speeds. In a tennis game, it serves as your racket as you swing away. In driving games it serves as a steering wheel, allowing you to swerve to avoid obstacles or pickup power-ups. In first-person shooters, it acts as a firearm that you can point directly at an on-screen enemy. The controller also has a force feedback "Rumble" (Wii,Wii Sale,Buy Wii,Cheap Wii,Wii Wii) feature and an expansion port for use with accessories, such as the Nunchuck, which adds an analog thumbstick and trigger buttons. The system allows for up to four controllers to be linked at a time and utilizes standard Bluetooth wireless technology. For those who prefer the feel of a traditional controller an adapter is available that fits over the Wii's remote.

  • Forecast Channel * - Your Wii can automatically update you on the weather from around the globe.
  • Wii Shop Channel * - Download the Opera web browser and access games from classic consoles from the past. All you need is a Wii Points account.

  • Internet Channel * - Just download the Opera browser for 500 Wii Points and within minutes, you'll be a professional sofa surfer, pointing-and-clicking your way around the web with your Wii Remote.
  • Photo Channel - Show off all your digital photos on your TV. Just insert an SD memory card into your Wii and away you go.
  • Disc Channel - The Disc Channel is backwards compatible with Nintendo GameCube, so you can play all your new Wii discs, along with all your classic Nintendo GameCube discs too!

The Depth of the Nintendo Game Catalog
Each Wii comes with a game compilation called "Wii Sports," including tennis, golf, baseball and bowling games, that show off the console's intuitive new controller, but Wii also plays games developed specifically (Wii,Wii Sale,Buy Wii,Cheap Wii,Wii Wii) for it as well as fan-favorite games from Nintendo's 20-year-old library. Its drive is compatible with GameCube discs, and select Nintendo titles from the original NES of the 1980s all the way through the Nintendo 64 are available for download through the "Virtual Console" for $5 and $10 respectively. To support this backwards compatibility the Wii includes four ports for classic Nintendo GameCube controllers and two slots for Nintendo GameCube Memory Cards. As if that weren't enough, the Virtual Console will also make available a few titles from SNES console contemporaries, Sega Genesis and TurboGrafx 16.Also, Wii utilizes Nintendo's newly-announced wireless feature, WiiConnect24. This worldwide feature allows players to receive content such as Wii Message Board messages sent from other Wii consoles, Miis, e-mails, updated channel and game content, and notification of software updates even while the console is on standby, keeping the fun going even when you are not online.

fun, but quickly collects dust4
I was excited to get the Wii. My daughter and others have been raving about it. Its fun to play, but you really need someone to play with you. After you've bowled 10 times, its boring. the addiction is buying new games for the wii. Its a money pit.

Fun for Adults and Children4
Having a 3 and 6 year old I was looking for a gaming system that would have games they could play as well as ones that I would enjoy.

Although the major consoles all have games for children as well as adults, the Wii allowed a more physically active engagement. For this reason, and specifically the Wii Fit product, (Wii,Wii Sale,Buy Wii,Cheap Wii,Wii Wii) I decided to go with the Wii.

While I am very pleased with the Nintendo Wii and the games I have gotten so far, I have been a little disappointed with the graphics. I am not one that usually cares too much what the graphics look like as long as the game play is good, but I was expecting the games on the Wii to at least look considerably better than games on the GameCube. So far I have not found this to be the case. In most of the games I have played, the graphics were pretty similar to the GameCube or only slightly better.

Overall the Wii is a very fun system and great to have for a family, but don't expect the games to look that great, even compared to the prior GameCube system.

A unique system5
I recently purchased a Wii and I am very pleased.

Out of the box, you get a Wii (with about 512 mb of built in storage for game saves and downloads) with one controller, a standard a/v line, and Wii sports. If you have hdtv, you'll have to buy the component cables seperately which can cost an additional 20-40 dollars depending on the brand.

The one thing Nintendo does well is making unique systems that appeals to all ages. Wii is no exception; it's small, affordable, and the primary method of control is through motion sensors. I remember when my parents bought me a NES console back in the 80s and I remember the most unique thing I have ever seen would be the light gun. I thought it was so awesome and thus far no other system has given me that much excitement until the Wii came about.

I am surprised about the motion sensor. It's very well. The included game, Wii Sports, include a verity of games that you can play. The one that stands out to me would be the boxing. It's quite amazing to see your character bounce around on screen responding to your motion. It's quite fun, and exciting. The best way to describe it would be to stand in front of a mirror and pretend to box with yourself.

The only problem with the Wii sensor is that it doesn't seem to respond to how hard you hit and it doesn't exactly know if you are in fact doing the motion correctly or not. So basically, you could be sitting down on your couch and just doing some weird lazy motion and the game will work (Wii,Wii Sale,Buy Wii,Cheap Wii,Wii Wii). I don't know why people would do this though.

If you buy a Wii, I highly recommend making a lot of room for movement. It's quite fun to play tennis and running back and fort in front of your TV.

The built in 512 mb is a lot of space for people who do not go online. I have purchased about five games in total, and the space is quite useful for just saving games. I don't go online with the console, but I would imagine that if you did, you would probably want to purchase a 2 gig memory card with your Wii which can cost about 20-30 dollars extra.

The up coming game library sounds wonderful. I won't get into games, since this review is mainly about the Wii console. However, I found I like games like Mario Galaxy, Super Swing Golf 2, MLB Power Pro, Smash Bro, Zelda, and countless others. A very good set of library to play with and there are a few Mature rated games on the system as well for those looking to play M-rated games (Wii,Wii Sale,Buy Wii,Cheap Wii,Wii Wii).

For those with Gamecube games, fear not. Wii is 100% backwards compatible. All you need to keep is your controller, memory cards, and of course, games. You can pretty much play any game from Gamecube on your Wii. I have a small collection of Resident Evil, Zelda, and a few other titles from my Gamecube. They all play without a hiccup on the Wii. If you have a third party controller or memory card, it may not work on your Wii.

Overall, I am pleased with Wii. I am a bit surprised that it's hard to find, though. I went to my local game store, asked for one, and they pulled it right out brand new, in the box sealed. If you plan to buy this product, what I heard is that you should (Wii,Wii Sale,Buy Wii,Cheap Wii,Wii Wii) go to your local game store every Friday around noon to see if you can get one. I know it's quite hard to find and that it's beyond the control of Nintendo, but I hope people don't pay too much for the console.
