Top-Notch Video Performance
The XBR KDL-52XBR4 is a 1080p television with a full 1920 x 1080 resolution, the highest resolution available for the sharpest, clearest picture. The KDL-52XBR uses the most recent HDMI 1.3 interface, which houses both audio and video signals in one connector and has the bandwidth to support the data needed for the high resolution. Sony's Bravia Engine Pro Full Digital Video Processor upconverts all video signals to 1080p so you can watch all your old DVDs on this glorious display.

Sony complements the high resolution with the latest technology in color reproduction. The KDL-52XBR is a 10-bit display with 10-bit processing. Most panels are only 8-bit. The added bit depth here means a larger color palette for more faithful color reproduction and smoother transitions from one color to the next. Additionally, the display also supports the new x.v.Color standard, which dramatically increases the available color space. The end result is a picture that is so detailed, colorful, and vibrant, you'd have a hard time distinguishing it from real life.

The KDL-52XBR4 features Sony's Motionflow technology, which automatically adjusts for and applies the proper processing for optimal motion reproduction depending on the video input. This includes support for 24 frames per second (24p) video, which displays video content at the 24-frames-per-second rate at which it was originally filmed or recorded. With 24p, you get the most faithful possible reproduction of the original.

A Wide Variety of Inputs
This Sony television's wide variety of inputs ensures compatibility with your other home theater components. There are three HDMI connections for Blu-Ray, HD DVD, and other technologies requiring the high bandwidth, and two component video inputs, three composite video inputs, one S-Video input, one PC Audio and Video input, and five analog audio inputs. Even with a collection of legacy components, you shouldn't have a problem connecting to the KDL-52XBR4.

Stunning Looks
The KDL-52XBR4 not only displays stunning video but is itself a head-turner. It features Sony's unique floating glass frame along with a black bezel that can be interchanged with optional color bezels to match the display to your decor.

Outstanding Ergonomics and Simplicity of Control
Sony's Xross Media Bar interface is an award-winning, intuitive on-screen display that makes setup a breeze, with menus and controls logically laid out for quick access. The KDL-52XBR4 also features Theatre Sync technology, based on the HDMI-CEC standard, which means you can easily connect to and control compatible devices. For example, when the KDL-52XBR4 is connected to a compatible DVD player, you can turn on both the DVD player and the television and start playing a DVD with a single push of a button on the remote. When you're done, another push of a button powers everything down. With Theatre Sync, you can spend time enjoying the movie rather than waste time setting everything up.

More Than Just a Television
Because more and more people expect to view photos on their HDTVs, Sony developed a Photo TV HD mode that optimally sets the sharpness, gradation, and color to make digital photos look like printed photography.

The KDL-52XBR4 is backed by a 1-year limited warranty for parts and labor.

A real winner5
It's easy to see just how far LCD's have come in the last five years. I purchased a 50" Sony in 2003. At the time, I thought this was the best looking picture for LCD. Colors on daylight scenes were truly magnificent but dark scenes had no contrast and the black level was, well, hardly black, more like a shade of grey!

A week ago I replaced this TV with the 52" XBR-4. What a wonderful TV. I heartily recommend it. Sony, and the other major LCD manufacturers, have really solved the problem with "black levels." Colors are very rich and dark scenes really come alive. And cosmetically, this TV is very classy with the glass border giving it a really nice look.

The SONY logo is illuminated and is appealing to see it light up when you turn on the TV. However, I find it distracting when watching a Blu-Ray or HD-DVD. You can easily turn this off (from within the general menu).

No negatives. If you're considering a 52" LCD,this is the king of the crop of true 1080p sets. They've been priced at around $2,999 during the last few weeks although a local upscale L.A. chain (Ken Crane's) from where I wanted to buy it, was selling the same set for a considerably higher price of $3,499.

I then decided to do some price comparisons to see if I could get a better price. I found it online at Amazon for $2,999 (though most retailers will not price match Internet e-tailers.) While I would save on the sales tax, I would be charged for shipping. Buying it locally it would be just the reverse. Other stores, like Best Buy were also higher in price, but coincidentally, while going through all the Sunday newspaper advertisements, I found the XBR-4 advertised by another chain (specializing more in appliances) in their Sunday L.A. Times ad. This chain has no locations near me and I don't think I would have shopped there anyway. But Ken Crane's does "price match" with local brick and mortar stores, so I got the TV for $500 less than they were selling them at.

I shop a lot at Amazon for CD's, DVD's, books and also some small appliances and electronics and have never had any problems. I'm just a little hesitant to buy such a large item online. Out of the box, my Sony was perfect. But if there were any minor flaws, I know the dealer would have taken it back immediately and replaced it the same day. So for the extra peace of mind, I did not purchase this online. But if this is not an issue with you, then get your TV from the fine folks at Amazon.

Excellent LCD Television5
I already have a Sony Bravia 46" flat-screen that I got about a year and a half ago. This new 52" XBR is SO much better...

The advancements in technology are apparent. You can watch this set from any comfortable angle. Blacks are SO good! This has been a sort of problem with earlier LCD televisions. A non reflective screen as well and I think that all plasmas are highly reflective. You see this LCD set and you definitely see the future of all flat-panels. Colors are actually breathtaking. You will certainly have your time of constantly saying "This is just amazing." I assure you that if you have High Def content fed into this set, you'll be absolutely amazed. Especially Blu Ray!!!

Please remember the calibrations. Setting them correctly makes a BIG difference. Not that out of the box, it doesn't look fantastic, but with the fine tuning of the setting can make a big personal difference. Check out the blogs on the internet to find out what others are doing with this television.

It is truly a masterpiece. It looks so good, even when it's off.

This is the stuff of fantasy. If you're reading this than you are wondering whether the upgrade to XBR is worth the extra money. All I can tell you is that since I didn't also buy a 52" standard version of this set, I have no idea of knowing whether it is or not. Also, all I can say is that this television is truly amazing! Hook up to a Blu Ray DVD player and I'm in video heaven. The picture is LETTER perfect, even if you watch it from five inches away. Why would you do this? But the image is THAT good. Photographic. Astonishing! Blu Ray is certainly the winning high def format (I have both) and the prices of Blu Ray players are now somewhat reasonable. You can really do all of your shopping on Amazon. Receivers. Speakers too.

Plenty of HDMI hookups and not that you need it, but setup is extremely easy.

The best LCD flat-screen on the market? Perhaps. All I can say is that you definitely won't be disappointed.

The delivery arrived way ahead of schedule and the white glove delivery not only took the set out of the box, but also moved it into position and checked it out, even checking for any missing pixels. They even took the box away. Since this delivery service is free and if you put it on a no interest for a year Amazon store card, how can you go wrong? Amazon stands behind this television and since there is also no sales tax....

I still love my original 46" Bravia television, which is in a bedroom but the new 52" is in the television room and it is really giant! I'm looking forward to connecting it to a HDMI Sony receiver and setting up the 5.1 surround like I have already done in the bedroom. But the sound from the television is pretty good and has fair bass, but you'll want this baby hooked up to the proper receiver.

All in all, it's a masterpiece to just behold. If you've been in the home video area over the years, you'll be just amazed. If you have kids, they'll probably say, "Cool, but it's just a television."

It's SOME television!

Excellent TV, but not as bright as the best plasma TVs. Overall, great image quality, (blue-ray movies look amazing) decent sound, and very good design. This is indeed a pricey TV, but I am certainly satisfied with Sony's XBR line.
