Canon EF 50mm F/1.4 lens a winner![]()
Like many others, I purchased a Canon Rebel XTi kit with the 18-55MM zoom and was immediately disappointed with the quality and speed. There is simply no substitute for a F1.4 or F1.2 prime lens, so after reading disappointing reviews of the durability of the f1.8 50mm lens, I opted for the F1.4. I have been extremely pleased with the results of the lens, and although it would have been nice to have a bit wider coverage (the 50mm lens on the XTi is equivalent to ~80mm on a 35mm camera) I have found the sharpness, mechanical quality, and speed to be far more important than slight inconvenience of the reduced angle of a slightly telephoto lens. Highly recommended for almost all purposes.
